Savory Pancakes, Anyone?

Savory pancakes from Japan: okonomiyaki

One of my "pet blogs" is all about the Japanese savory griddle cake called okonomiyaki, traditionally stuffed with cabbage and topped with a special sweetened worchestershire sauce called "okonomi sauce".

The word OKONOMI-YAKI literally means "whatever you like, cooked".  If you look at the second part of this compound word, "yaki", you'll probably recognize it from other food words you know like "sukiyaki", "yakitori", "teriyaki".  That's the part that means "grilled" or "cooked".

I've found it's not a well-known food, but everyone I've cooked it for loves it.  So go check out the okonomiyaki recipes blog, maybe try a few recipes -- I have recipes for everything from a few different styles okonomiyaki to the toppings that go on it, and a couple of vegan and gluten-free recipes to boot -- and let me know what you think!

Here's what I've developed so far:

Interesting, interesting.

Greetings, posterous fellow.

Around 20 minutes ago I chanced upon this blogging community.  I have several of my own websites and blogs already, their nexus being nthmost.com.  My most prolific blog thus far lives at Venix Flytrap's Anticlimax

So I'm not sure how I will use this site, other than to browse and subscribe to the content that I find here, of which there is clearly prodigious amounts.

If you blog something you think I'll like, please leave me a comment and I will take a look!

Here are some of my interests:

  • steampunk
  • new wave
  • drumming
  • ion drums
  • kombucha
  • okonomiyaki
  • raw food
  • paleolithic diet / paleo diet
  • linguistics / languages
  • japan / japanese
  • memetics
  • marketing / publicity

And who knows, maybe I'll find a reason to blog here.  My capacity for blogging knows no bounds, really.  I just need the proper kick in the pants, so to speak.

Cheers,

Naomi
